Cookie policy

Cookies are small files a website can save on your device. Similar technologies, such as local storage, do the same job in different ways.

Cookies on this site

The main site doesn't set any cookies or use any tracking. There's no analytics, advertising or social media tracking, which is why you won't see a cookie message on it.

The listening pages

The short pages under elenameetstheauthor.com/listen are where Elena's Facebook and Instagram adverts send people. On those pages you'll be asked whether Elena can use the Meta Pixel. It only loads if you click "Accept".

If you accept, Meta may set cookies called _fbp and _fbc, which last up to 90 days, so Elena can see which adverts bring people to the podcast. If you click "No thanks", no Meta cookies are set and nothing is sent to Meta.

Your choice itself is saved in your browser's local storage, so you aren't asked again on every page. This is needed to respect your choice and isn't used for anything else. You can change your mind at any time with the "Cookie settings" link at the bottom of any /listen page.

The /listen pages also count visits and button clicks for Elena's own statistics. That counting doesn't use cookies or store anything on your device, so it runs whatever you choose. The privacy policy explains what's recorded.

Security cookies from our host

The site is hosted by Cloudflare. In some circumstances Cloudflare may set a short-lived security cookie (for example one called __cf_bm) to tell real visitors apart from automated bots. These cookies are strictly necessary to keep the site secure, don't track you across other sites, and are allowed without consent under UK law.

Other websites

When you follow a link to another site, such as Spotify, YouTube, Substack or Bookshop.org, that site may set its own cookies under its own policy.

Changes

If anything changes about how cookies are used, this page will be updated. Last updated 26 October 2026.
